Layers of fuzzed-out pop coat The Better Button, the debut album from Brooklyn's Mink Lungs, like a warm, slightly aged furry coat of noise. Tunes spew out, eclectic and harmonic, gritty and twisted the odd backwards loop intruding, even a cringe-inducing sample from an answering machine (at the end of "Watch Yourself"). Musically, Mink Lungs brothers Gian Carlo and Tim Felepp, plus couple Jennifer "Miss Frosty" Hoopes and Tom Galbraith occupy a similar territory to Olivia Tremor Control and their caffeine and Beach Boys-loving, psychedelic counterparts: perhaps Flaming Lips, if you squint and draw that big furry coat on tighter. The distorted home recording on "Synthesizer" and (very secretive) "Peep Show" only increase the music's charm. --Everett True
