Though he was associated with the late- 70s NYC punk movement, Willie a.k.a. Mink DeVille was actually more of a blues, R&B and even Cajun artist at heart, and as his career continued, his albums became more and more eclectic, soulful and vibrant. And this 1983 release just might be the best of the bunch, with jazzy, ethnic-tinged fare (River of Tears), Cuban son (Demasiado Corazon), and heartrending ballads (Around the Corner; The Moonlight Let Me Down) all part of the colorful parade.
The perfect companion piece to the new John Waters film, opening September 24th. From co-star Selma Blair's "Red Hot" and Johnny Knoxville's theme, "Let's Go Sexin'", to the life-changing experience that Tracy Ullman's character experiences while listening to "The Pussy Cat Song", these songs play a prominent role in the film. By the time "Tony's Got Hot Nuts" and "Itchy Twitchy Spot" come on, you know that Waters used extra TLC while selecting these songs. Artists include Screamin' Jay Hawkins, James Intveld, Connie Vannett, Slim Harpo, David Raksin Orchestra, Billy Lee Riley, and many more.
