Marci Geller s latest release Box of Truth offers a delicious variety of pop tongue-in-cheek ditties coupled with her usual exploration of pain and joy. Me Versus the Pill starts off the CD with a bold question; Why are we as a society taking a pill for everything? It floats with ease into the hypnotic, rock inflected Suicide which showcases Geller s vocal strengths as well confronting a friend who gave up on himself. Day I Disappeared, a rock/folk number reveals some dark secrets and unveils how the protagonist disappears when she loses herself in a tramatic episode. The haunting Home takes the listener through the journey of those middle of the night phone calls that always bare foreboding news. The remainder of the CD invites the listener into Geller s world which triumphantly rises above taking itself too seriously. With a bombastic and joyous chorus of la, la s at the end of OK , a celebration of love in That s Good rounded out by mystery and intrigue in My Last Mistake, Secret She Keeps and Truth About Lies, Geller has hones her writing skills to recount a dynamic story. With a list of credits that would stand taller than the petite singer, she boasts a lofty resume. She performed her original song We Carry On on Live! With Regis, has toured internationally as an opening act and back-up vocalist for legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. She has numerous compositions placed in soundtracks on VH-1, MTV,A&E, Discovery, FoodTV, HBOand ABC. She scored the soundtrack to the Barracuda Yoga video (featuring the cast from WE Network s Single in the City ) with co-producer/ composer Gian DiMauro and was voted one of the Top 10 Best Singer/Songwriters by Independent Songwriter magazine. Armed with her piano and songs that haunt you for days, Box of Truth proves that Marci Geller is still excavating new ground. Lucky 13, Sonic Underground s latest release, is a compilation featuring the diverse music of Cathy Kreger, Marci Geller & Susan DeVita. It marks the label s 13th anniversary, a feat for any entity in today s tenuous music industry as well as a declaration of it s unyielding tenacity as a very independent record label. I guess we re just plain stubborn, boasts SU s co-founder Marci Geller. We never had the budget or staff of a major, or of most of the independents for that matter. We have always had to think outside the box to survive. Lucky 13 and Sonic Underground continue to tempt fate and push the limit with pride. Bucking with tradition and genre specific bounds, Lucky 13 offers an array of blues infused folk songs, pop tunes that range from witty and light to dark and introspective and jazz inflected soundscapes that will mesmerize the listener. When we decided on a compilation, the artists selected came to mind easily, explains DiMauro. We ve had the pleasure of working with these individuals separately over the past years, and uniting them in this one package was a perfect fit. Each artist brings not only their unique voice and songwriting skills, but their perseverance, positive energy and diligent work ethic. This is not just an ordinary release, states Geller, It is a cooperative effort that pools our talent and singular vision so we can work off of one another s strengths. Hosting 13 strong songs by the three artists that includes the 13th title track which was co-written specifically for the compilation, Lucky 13 serves as a commemorative musical soup for the headiest of listeners.
