Donkey  >>

Brazil's CSS release their follow-up to 2006's "Cansei de Ser Sexy" ("I got tired of being sexy"). They've toured worldwide a number of times with the likes of Gwen Stefani, Ladytron, Klaxons, and Diplo, and played festivals from Coachella, Pitchfork, and Virgin to Reading, Benicassim, Roskilde, and beyond. "Donkey" is tough, street-ready, and recreates the frenetic energy of their live shows. Equal parts dance party, urban circus, and out-and-out chaos.

Cansei de Ser Sexy  >>

From Brazil, CSS is the first South American band Sub Pop has foisted upon the global marketplace. The title is Portuguese for "Tired Of Being Sexy" and the sound is a thick, pulsating thing full of haphazard synths and a come-on of call and response that tears down any attempt at posturing. It's equal parts rock mantra and throwback into something new, transcending boundaries of genre and geography. It goes full speed into dance territory, into the unknown and untouched, to emerge all hot and bothered with wild electro-rock. Quick, tightly-wound, unfastened, and supreme.

The first single from "Donkey" features three killer remixes, the album version, and an instrumental edit. Australian Pitchfork faves Cut Copy, British uber remixer Metronomy, and new Island recording artist Frankmusik offer unique interpretations of the title track.

Quirky Brazilian sextet C.S.S. (aka Cansei De Ser Sexy) were one of the surprise success stories of 2006. Launched on an unsuspecting public, their day-glo modern Psychedelia cut a swathe through the identikit angular indie-pop clogging the U.K. music papers. Deliberately attention-grabbing song titles such as "Meeting Paris Hilton," "Music Is My Hot Hot Sex," and "CSS Suxxx" also helped to increase coverage. The dance/art-rock of their full-length debut, Cansei De Ser Sexy, drew favorable comparisons with Har Mar Superstar and LCD Soundsystem.

ALALA  >>

UK CD single from the Brazilian Dance/Rock outfit, taken from their Cansei De Ser Sexy album. A joyous mash-up of styles, with a guitar riff and pulsating bassline so infectious, so instant, it hurts. Much has been made of the fact that Lovefoxxx wrote the lyrics of this track so that her then favourite band (Death From Above 1979) could google themselves and stumble across a then-unknown CSS and their tribute to the now-defunct duo Includes, 'Let’s Make Love and Listen to Death from Above' plus 'Alala' (Bonde Do Role Remix). Warner. 2007.
