SPIDER WEBZINE: print on issue 9 -http://www.myspace.com/spiderswebzine

There are plenty of amazing female fronted bands rising from their dark graves these days, but it’s fantastic to see that there is a band with such strong brand new sound with a metal touch on the scene. They have given birth to a new generation in the music scene, merging unbelievable beautiful notes of opera and metal together.
Pull in your curtains, switch off the lights, burn a black candle, sit on the floor all alone. Close your eyes, and allow the first few seconds of “The Morning Star - Intro” enter your soul. This is the way to experience the journey of a metal hearted princess travelling through the dark, cold, lonely, painful endless black hole called LIFE - some may call it DEATH. The first thought that came to mind when I put on this EP and heard Dusk’s other-worldly vocals and angelic voice that it was a soundtrack to a new film about magical creatures – faeries or vampires….whatever you call them. This album is lyrically extremely powerful, and as the CD comes with a booklet, so you are blessed with a little poetry book in your hands that accompany the sound that this band have created.Strongly guitar based, melodic metal band. One might say, “oh, another metal band, is it”? In my little gothic heart I have a very special love for this unusual Italian female fronted band. They have created a sound that you would not normally expect in a metal band. Dusk’s voice is out of ordinary. Maybe she has a few different personalities living inside of her, from a passionate opera singer (from a different lifetime), a little sweet angel lost in the clouds, a confident Italian woman who knows what she wants….She is being supported by extremely talented (and once again passionate) musicians to survive the hellstorm, the lilium, and escape from delirium…The album is not one of those to sing along with, unless of course you have the fantastic voice like Dusk who can reach amazing notes! But as a music lover, you will find yourself bewitched by the sound. Do you not believe me? Check them out!

Crysalys’ 2nd EP entitled “White Lotus on Acheron Shores” is quite an interesting release. The band claims to play, what they term, melodicore. Frankly, that’s exactly what you get from these Italians. The music is powerful, in the vein of the American metalcore scene (like Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage and Caliban) with subtle Swedish death metal undertones (similar to Dark Tranquillity). This powerful yet highly melodic music is accompanied by the quite diverse – some times operatic, other times clean – female vocals of Chiara. No, don’t expect music that resembles that of Nightwish, After Forever or any other “gothic” metal bands who use operatic vocals. Crysalys is heavier, more powerful and more aggressive. The riffs are intense, the drumming is fast and, together with the haunting vocals, it sounds extraordinarily brutal. On the final track, “My Delirium” there’s even the highly metalcore sounding male vocals done by Jacob Bredhal (ex Hatesphere). In conclusion, “White Lotus on Acheron Shores” is an exceptionally powerful album, filled with many different styles and surprises. Especially those who are into metalcore and/or melodic death metal will love this. I know I did.

THE DARKEST MUSIC: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=222246970&blogID=355626902

White Lotus On Acheron' Shores is CRYSALYS' second release (the first was Season Of Suffering form 2006) but this time it is with Mario Brillarelli (VOIVODA) and Giampaolo Squadroni (DIURNO) on guitars. It is still the talented Chiara Malvestiti (DUSK) on vocals – both clean and operatic – though.
When you buy WLOAS you get four full songs and an intro. One of the absolute highlights of the EP is My Delirium with Jacob Bredahl (ex. HateSphere) which is absolutely brilliant. Bredahl's aggressive growling mixed with Chiara's beautiful operatic voice is a match made in heaven (or in hell, whatever you prefer). Another favourite is Hellstorm which really shows how diverse Chiara's voice is. She has the ability to sing with a very strong operatic voice but also with equally powerful clean vocals. All the songs on WLOAS are characterized by the high level of talent – on both singer and musicians part. Throughout the entire EP you get to listen to a bunch of very talented musicians and that it is what completes the experience. This band is more than just a talented singer – it is a band! The EP, White Lotus On Acheron' Shores, definitely makes me want to hear a lot more from CRYSALYS. The future seems quite promising for those five Italians.
Christina.
